Code: 654
Dimensions:
A late 19th-century French, probably Samson, enamel snuff or pill box of trefoil form, the lid painted with a lady holding flowers in a garden setting, with the inscription “Accept this Trifle” inside a border of white “jeweling”. Set against a light blue ground with metal mounts, and a white enamel interior.
Although there are other very similar boxes listed as South Staffordshire/Bilston on the Internet and this box does not have the tell-tale lug on the hinge or mark to identify it as Samson, because it is hand painted and not printed, and is in such good condition, we think it is more likely late 19th-century French.
