Code: 545
Dimensions:
An interesting porcelain scent bottle modeled as two dolphins on a shell, probably late 18th century, with gilt metal fittings. 4.4in (11.2cm) high (inc stopper).
G E Bryant, in “The Chelsea Porcelain Toys…” notes a Christie’s sale of 1890 listing “Lot 318…A Mennecy scent-bottle formed as a group of two dolphins on a shell…”. However, that had a “silver stopper and enameled French motto.” (pg.22)
Condition: In very good condition. No damage or restoration to porcelain. Gilding on metal fittings worn. The stopper sits slightly off to one side because the cork washer it fits into has worn away on one side.
