Code: 734
Dimensions:
An 18th-century Chelsea porcelain scent bottle, ca.1755, with case, modeled as a wine flask in a basket weave holder, with kakiemon style floral decoration to either side of the neck, and “Eau de Senteur” (“Scented Water”) in a cartouche, with original butterfly stopper and shagreen covered case with red velvet interior, but missing the gilt metal/gold mounts. The bottle with the butterfly stopper is 9.5cm high
Condition: Missing gilt metal/gold mounts, with minor chipping to the top of the bottle that they would have covered. Slight discoloration to the basket moulding (this could be removed with a hydrogen peroxide treatment). The core of the stopper appears shortened, but the actual stopper would most likely have been part of the metal mounts. Examined under ultraviolet light - no restoration found.
