William L Langley (British 1852 - 1922) A Crofter’s Cottage, oil on canvas, set in a molded frame, partially legible signature lower left.

Notes: A charming “rural idyll” painting of the late Victorian era by an accomplished artist. This painting is an example of the highest quality of his work. The signature is barely visible but is there, painted at the lower left, which Langley often did. The “G. Rowney & Co. London W. Quality A” stencil verso was used to trademark the canvas in the late 19th/early 20th century.

Biography: William Langley was active from 1880 to 1920, painting highland scenes, rural landscapes, and coastal scenes, mostly in oils.
