French Samson Hochst style porcelain box

An unusual French Samson Höchst style porcelain box, late 19th century, of rectangular form with a domed lid, the lid with a central painting of a gallant with a lady in a landscape, the sides with flower sprays, the lid and the tops of the sides bordered with a puce scale pattern, the interior white, with gilt metal mounts.

Marks: Unusually, the base of this box has both a spurious Höchst wheel mark as well as Samson’s own crossed “S” mark. We have never seen another example of both the Samson mark and a spurious manufacturer’s mark on the same item.

Measurements:
Width: 8.7 cm (3.4 in)
Depth: 7.2 cm (2.8 in)
Height: 4.8 cm (1.9 in)

Condition: Good. The lid does not close firmly. There is a very shallow slice chip (really just a glaze loss) at one corner of the base.
