Lucie Rie and Hans Coper sgraffito cup and saucer

Dame Lucie Rie, DBE (1902 – 1995) and Hans Coper (1920 – 1981) a stoneware cup and saucer, with manganese glaze, the cup with linear sgraffito design, the saucer with a sgraffito ring around the rim.

Maker’s marks: Impressed seals for both artists to the base of the cup. The saucer unmarked.

Measurements: 
Diameter of saucer: 14.2 cm (5.6 in)
Height of cup: 6.4 cm (2.5 in)

Condition: Both are in excellent, original condition, with no damage or restoration.

Provenance: The collection of the ceramic artist Eric James Mellon (1925-2014) and his wife, the artist Martina Mellon (née Thomas) (1924-1995). Purchased directly from Rie and Coper.
